Her Gut Is Data

One of the most important things we can teach our daughters is this:
Her gut is data.

Not drama.
Not overreacting.
Not being “too sensitive”.
Not making a big deal out of nothing.

Data.

That uncomfortable feeling in her stomach when someone’s words don’t match their actions.

That tightness in her chest when something immediately feels off.

That little internal pause when a situation feels unsafe.

That is information.

And too often, girls are taught to override it.

Be nice.
Don’t be rude.
Give them a chance.
Don’t make it awkward.
Maybe you misunderstood.
Maybe you’re being dramatic.

Yes, kindness matters.
But so does discernment.

We need to teach our daughters that their bodies often notice things before their brains have words for them.
Their nervous systems pick up on tone, inconsistency, pressure, manipulation, and emotional shifts.

Sometimes the body whispers before the mind can explain.

That doesn’t mean every feeling is automatically a fact.
But it does mean every feeling is worth listening to.

Because when we teach girls to ignore their gut, we teach them to disconnect from one of their most important forms of self-protection-their intuition.

Our girls do not need to be taught to fear everyone.
But they do need to be taught to pay attention.

And they need adults who don’t immediately talk them out of what they know.

Because sometimes her gut will be the first place her wisdom shows up.

So let’s raise girls who are kind, open-hearted, and compassionate.

But let’s also raise girls who know that discomfort is allowed to have a voice.

Girls who understand that boundaries don’t require a courtroom-level defense.

Girls who can say, “Something doesn’t feel right,” and know that is enough reason to pause.

Enough reason to step back.
Enough reason to say no.
Enough reason to leave.
Enough reason to ask for help.

And when they tell us something feels off, our first instinct should be to listen, not talk them out of it.

Because while her gut is not always the whole story, it is part of the story.

And it deserves to be heard.
