I turned 58 this weekend and the day before my birthday, I went to a music festival with my daughter.
My first one.
Not exactly where I pictured myself spending the final day of 57.
It was loud. Crowded. Colorful. A little crazy. And wonderfully different from my normal life.
And I loved it.
I loved the music. I loved the people. I loved the kind couple who basically adopted me when my daughter braved the crowd to get closer to the stage. They noticed I was cold and offered me the brand-new sweatshirt they had just bought to keep me warm.
I loved all the amazing fits—each person uniquely dressed and expressing themselves in whatever way felt most like them.
I loved watching thousands of people show up exactly as they were and somehow create this incredible energy together.
But mostly, I loved experiencing it with my daughter.
There is something really special that happens when our kids grow up and start inviting us into their world.
We spend so many years showing them ours. Taking them places. Introducing them to things. Creating experiences for them.
And then, if we’re lucky, the roles begin to shift.
They start showing us things.
And hopefully, we say yes.
Maybe that is one of the best parts of getting older.
Not trying to stay young, but staying open.
Open to different people.
Different music.
Different experiences.
Different versions of fun.
So I ended 57 dancing and vibing at a music festival with my daughter, deeply appreciating that she wanted me there and was willing to bring me along for the experience.
I can’t think of a better way to walk into 58.
Still curious.
Still dancing.
Still saying yes.
Not trying to be younger.
Just making sure I never get too old to be open to whatever life brings my way.
💛💛💛
